back North Kora financial sanctions
Page last updated at 8:18 GMT, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 9:18 UK

World affairs editor, BBC News
China has not yet backed Seoul's report on the Cheonan sinking South Korea says it has persuaded China and Japan to take part in financial sanctions against North Korea.
It comes in the wake of the sinking of a South Korean naval ship by a North Korean submarine.
In a BBC interview, South Korean Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan speculated that the sinking of the Cheonan might have been the result of internal Pyongyang politics.
North Korea has angrily denied any responsibility for the attack.
(I think it is not a good manner to just deny responsibility for the attack)
The North Korean military, Mr Yu said, might have decided to do it in order to distract attention from other problems.
Mr Yu had no criticisms to make of China for failing to condemn North Korea publicly for the sinking of the Cheonan.
On the contrary, he felt that China had been privately helpful and understanding during the three-way summit with South Korea and Japan, which ended on Sunday.
South Korea is hoping to make the regime in Pyongyang pay a heavy price for its actions.
It is invoking UN resolution 1695, passed in 2006, which makes it possible to introduce economic sanctions against North Korea for breaching its international obligations.
The government in Seoul wants all inflows of money to North Korea to be stopped.
If China, which has so far delayed announcing its own findings on the sinking of the Cheonan, does take part in the sanctions, it could make life even harder for President Kim Jong-il's regime.
Fragile economy
Things are already difficult enough for him. The famine of the past seems mostly to have been dealt with, at least for now, as a result of the government's decision to allow a quiet measure of free enterprise.

Profile: Kim Jong-un
Why is China treading so carefully?
On the tracks of 'Kim's successor'
But this has helped to create a great deal of corruption among low-level officials, on a scale which the North Korean regime had never previously allowed.
Towards the end of last year North Korea introduced a currency reform which had the effect of raising some salaries by as much as 10,000%.
This made it possible for a lot of people to buy things they had only previously dreamt of.
The shops were suddenly filled with great quantities of cheap consumer goods, mostly brought or smuggled in from China. But it also introduced alarming rates of inflation.
The inflow of cash from outside has never been large, but it has helped to keep North Korea's immensely fragile economy going. If the Chinese join in a wider blockade, it could have serious political consequences as well as economic ones.
It comes at a time when Kim Jong-il, the so-called "Dear Leader", is becoming manifestly weaker. He was once surprisingly clever at wrong-footing both South Korea and the United States in the past, but ever since his stroke in 2008 his powers have waned.

If things go wrong it could have very serious consequences far wider than just Korea
Yu Myung-hwan
South Korea Foreign Minister
Now his third and youngest son, Kim Jong-un, seems to have been selected to take over from him, just as Kim Jong-il himself was once chosen to succeed "the Great Leader", Kim Il-sung.
Scarcely anything is known about Kim Jong-un, who is either 27 or 28 - accounts vary. He is thought to have been educated in Switzerland, and he possibly speaks quite good English.
Only one authentic photograph of him exists in the public domain, and since that was taken when he was eleven it is not much of a guide to his appearance now.
Rumour in South Korea has it that he was involved in the disastrous decision to reform the currency last year.
Mr Yu admitted in his BBC interview that all these things made people feel nervous about the future of the peninsula at present.
"If things go wrong it could have very serious consequences far wider than just Korea," he said.
It sounds like a measured understatement.

script of my digital storytelling
Like many other Korean students, I have more things to do than the things I like to do. I think that's a shame for us but I believe by trying to do the things we love, we can be happier that any other person. OK, Now i'm gonna really start my digital storytelling!
First, I want to say that I'm a Christian. When I was In high school, I participated in the club of many Christians. I just love the time spending with them. It is always good to be with people that you have same faith in. It made me peaceful and happy. This is the poster of the event that we prepared for helping many people who don't believe in god to be interested in God. I think it was very meaningful and it made me feel really good. This is the picture of my friends in this club. They all look very happy to be with the people they really care about.
Speaking of friends, I want to talk about my friends too. I love hanging out with my friends! This is the photo of my best friends. She is kind and most of all, she listens to my story very well. We share our thoughts and worries. Being with her is very interesting too! She's very funny so she always makes me laugh and she is a very positive minded person.
This is a photo of my other friends in high school. I was in English major in my high school and all the English majors were very close and we still keep in touch a lot ! and I think it's very good to have these friends. I would say I am very lucky.
This is the photo taken in our graduation day. We were more sad than happy.
Next, as I mentioned, I like people who are humorous and so my favorite singer is 이승기 who has a great smile and a sense of humor. It makes me feel good just looking at his smile actually.
I like traveling. but because I can't travel whenever I want right now because i'm a student and don't have enough money, I like to just look at the picutures on websites , blogs and so on. Just looking at them make me feel good too! I dream myself traveling all around the world everyday looking at the photos.
Now I'm gonna introduce my favorite tv program. It's 무릎팍도사. In every week,
each person who is famous for something come out on the show and talk about their lives. I like listening to other people's lives and how they got successful and so on. It gives me hope
to achieve my dream and endure all the adversity to do that. Next is my favorite american sitcom FRIENDS. I have been watching this sitcom for about 5 years I've watched it over and over again but I don't get bored. I could learn many things about american culture and of coures, English. But most of all, It is really fun watching the most interesting and popular sitcom in America.
So, I think that's about it! It was so fun telling my story! It is always good to think about the things that you like. It was an interesting time for me too THANK YOU

Inside 'American Idol' Finale, Fans Urge Simon Cowell: 'Don't Go!'
LOS ANGELES — The party got started long before the final "American Idol" performance show kicked off. "Idol" contestants from seasons past were right at home and accepted cheers and catcalling from the 7,000 fans inside the Nokia Theatre.
About an hour before the show started, season-one runner-up Justin Guarini held court. The curly-haired singer was outside near the talent check-in, taking cell phone shots with fans, shaking hands and laughing with friends he called out to.
Scott MacIntyre, the blind piano-playing contestant from season eight, was taken aback when the crowd whistled and applauded his arrival. Megan Joy — who got rid of the long, lush locks we remember from the same season — ran her fingers through her cropped blond 'do and smiled when a fan complimented her on the new look as she tried to scurry to her seat before the lights went up and the show began. Oh, and she was barefoot!
An ear-busting scream went out when Simon Cowell was introduced, especially when the crowd was reminded that this was his second-to-last day as an "Idol" judge. "You getting emotional already?" the warm-up comic asked a fan who was bawling during a commercial break. "It's not even the results show!"
Over another break, Michael "Big Mike" Lynche was razzed by the warm-up guy, who claimed the personal trainer/ singer was an over-exuberant Justin Bieber fan. "You had the Bieber fever," he joked with Lynche "You couldn't sleep the night before he performed here. OK, I need to be careful. You might crush me."
Host Ryan Seacrest cruised the aisles before the finalists' second songs of the night, slapping high-fives with fans and holding hands with a show producer as they ran back down toward the stage.
While the crowd's signs are typically meant to cheer on the contestants, most of Tuesday night's (May 25) posters were aimed at Cowell. "Please don't go, Simon!" one sign read.
Who are you rooting for to win this season of "American Idol": Crystal or Lee? Let us know in the comments!
Get your "Idol" fix on MTV News' "American Idol" page, where you'll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.
Applying the Immersion Program
What is IMMERSION?
: Language immersion is an approach to foreign language instruction in which the usual curricular activities are conducted in a foreign language
Misuses of the word 'IMMERSION'
: “Immersion" has been a convenient term used freely by schools and the media for an increasingly popular form of foreign language education. Unfortunately, in most cases, the term is misused. For many, the term "immersion" seems to imply any class that is taught through the medium of a second language. However, simply teaching a content class (e.g. Math, Music, Science, etc.) in a foreign language is not immersion. The most commonly used definition of immersion comes from Fred Genesee of McGill University, one of the world's leading authorities on immersion education. On page one of his seminal book "Learning Through Two Languages: Studies in Immersion and Bilingual Education" (1987, Newbury House) he provides the following definition of immersion:
*Good things about Immersion program!
1.Students can develop their linguistic skill and multicultural understanding.
2.Immersion program can provide students with the deepest possible exposure to a second language and culture.
Q. Applying an immersion program into public schools in Korea?
Strengths
1. Equal opportunity of language education to everyone ( <-> Englsih divide)
2. Students can take English as more friendly and comfortable.
3. Students can learn more efficiently (Critical Period)
4. More chances to use Englsih(Speaking, Listening, Writing)-more exposure!
5. Lower cost
Weeknesses
1. Korean culture and Korean language can be ignored.
2. Low achievement of subject knowledge due to inefficiency of using Englsih.
3. Not every subject teachers can teach in English well.(Teacher Issues)
4. Other studnest can inferior to- ->More private education
5. changed goal from knowledge to English.

new words
Just two years after a majority of visitors to Merriam-Webster OnLine declared it to be their "Favorite Word (Not in the Dictionary)," the adjective "ginormous" (now officially defined as "extremely large: humongous"), has won a legitimate place in the 2007 copyright update of Merriam-Webster's Collegiate® Dictionary, Eleventh Edition.
Merriam-Webster updates its best-selling Collegiate® Dictionary every year with a number of new words, senses, and variants. This year, the word "ginormous" was one of approximately 100 neologisms to make the cut, while many others will stay "closely watched" by our editors for possible inclusion in future revisions. (This, of course, begs the question: so just exactly how does a word get into the Merriam-Webster dictionary?)
As those who participated in our 2005 "Favorite Word (Not in the Dictionary)" online survey will undoubtedly agree, the word "ginormous" has undeniably proven its true staying power.
Here's a sample of the nearly 100 new words and senses now deemed ginormous enough to be included in the 2007 copyright version of the best-selling Merriam-Webster's Collegiate® Dictionary, Eleventh Edition—available this fall in bookstores everywhere. How many of these words are already a part of your vocabulary?

Which English teachers do you think is better for our students, native speakers of English, or Korean English teachers? Why?
Moram : I think Korean English teachers are good for Korean students when learning English, because English native teachers may speak English more fluently than Non native English speakers but they don't understand Korean cultures so they will have problems teaching Korean students. When learning English, students need to understand fully about English and it would be very difficult when taught from Native Englsih teachers. So I think Korean students should learn from NNES teachers. It can be a problem when students don't fully understand Native English teachers.
● NNES TEACHERS ARE BETTER FOR STUDENTS
2. NNES teachers can communicate with Korean students.
3. Korean teahcers can compete NES teachers in terms of language proficiency.
● NES TEACHERS ARE BETTER FOR STUDENTS
1. Students can be accustomed to NES teachers.
Discussion Topic 1 :Is TETE good?

***TEAM OPINIONS
AGAINST TETE
1. Students who can't understand what teacher is saying can have problems in English classes. It is good for students to be taught by Korean.
2. TETE can be applied to only high-level students. For lower level students, when teaching Grammar and Reading, teachers should use Korean and When teaching Listening and Speaking, teachers should use English.
3. English teacher cannot be always right, so they may use wrong English and students can learn wrong English from them.
FOR TETE
1. Students should have the opportunity to experience English in classes. Students learn English more and they can develop their English skills through listening to English teachers who speaks English in classes.
2. By using English in English classes in Korea, Koreans will not need to go abroad to experience English.
3. Koreans should learn real English, not English for exams in Korea.
***CLASS OPINIONS
AGAINST TETE
1. Koreans understand grammar well when explained in Korean.
2. Teacher can give students too much burden on English.
3. Students have different levels of English.
4. Teachers can input wrong information to students
5. Studnets need to prepare for KSAT and TETE is not appropriate for this.
FOR TETE
1. Extended exposure to Engish Speaking environment.
2. Young learners can learn English more in English speaking environment.
3. Unconscious learning can be good
4. Learning too different modeo of English at a time.
5. Better understanding can be done in the language.

Option 1: Do you do Cyworld? Tell me how you do. Explain what you you like about Cyworld (strengths) and what you do not like about it (Weaknesses)
: Yes I do Cyworld, but I rarely go into my own mini hompage. I usually go into my friends' hompage and see how they are doing. Also, I write short words to communicate with my friends. I think cyworld does a lot thing that we couldn't do in the past. It helps to keep in touch with people that we can't meet so through cyworld, we manage to keep our good relationship with the people. I like Cyworld because of these reasons.
What I don't like about cyworld is that we can have too much time in cyworld. It is such a waste time when we are online for a long time. It helps us to keep in touch with people but It can be addictive sometimes. Also, it is bad because it sometimes block the opportunities to actually meeting face to face.

Insadong
I went out of home at 2 o'clock and I was in An-Guk station at about 3 o'clock.
I wondered aroud until my friend arrived. I ate Ho-dduck and peach ice-tea too.
It was very delicious. I visited art gallery too! It was exciting to see many marvelous art works. I love arts! I hope to visit many other art galleries in the near future. I then sat on benches and see people walking by. There were many foreigners too so I really enjoyed just looking at many people.
I went to Samji gil too. I have heard of 'sam ji gil' but it was my first time to actually visit there.
My long time no-see friend finally came! We went to have our dinner. We had 'Su-je-bi'
It was more delicious because I was with my friend!
After dinner, we went for a walk. We had Turkish ice cream for dessert!
AND FINALLY!! WE STOPPED TO LISTEN TO THE MUSIC THAT ONE BAND CALLED 'FOURBROTHERS' WERE PLAYING! It was really really really really cool.
It was late at night but me and my friend just sat there and listened to their music for about an hour.
I will not forget this night!
Although I was exhausted from all the walking, I really want to visit INSADONG again!

Plan your days (years) to achieve your goal. Set up your career goal first and then design your life (study) plan for the coming 2018, 2013, and this year.
It is very hard to know what I'm gonna do in several years but also, I think it is very important to think about this stuff. It will help me achieve my goal more easily.
First, as I mentioned in my storytelling, one of my dreams is to be able to use English like a native speaker. To achieve this goal, I will try to have a lot of experience to develop my English skills. I'm planning I will achieve this goal in 10years. So I will read many English books and watch English movies often. I will study for English Exams like TEPS and TOEFL for my score too.
Secondly, I want to learn many languages such as French and Chinese in 5 years. I think it can be a good challenge for me too. It's very interesting to learn foreign languages as well as cultures.
My storytelling
INFJs are generally doers as well as great dreamers. They tend to be devoted to what they believe in and seek work where their needs, values and ideals can be deeply engaged. They consider inspirations as very inportant thing too. These great dreamers dream too much that sometimes they can easily be exhausted from a large gap between their dream and reality and when INFJ people get hurt from the gap and so on, they usually don't express their feelings often.
INFJ like to be in a quiet place as well as place with several people. I think I like quiet places too. I get more energy when I am alone doing my private things. I like to hang out with my friends and talke about our lives too. I love spending time with my close friends like INFJ does. INFJ is not a very active person so they are careful when they make new friends but they love having deep realtionship with a few people.
Lastly, I want to talk about my learnig in English from now on. One of my dreams is to be able to use English like a native speaker. To achieve this goal, I think I should have a lot of experience that helps me develop my English skills and in the near future, I hope to have a chance to learn more about other languages too. Thank you for listening.

What is your study goal for this year? Is English a part of your goal? What do you plan to achieve your goal?
Tell us about your dream. What do you hope to do 10 years later?
I didn't actually think about study goal for this year but one thing i'm sure is that i want to improve my English skills. To achieve this goal, I hope to have a lot of chance that could help me use more English. Also, I'm going to watch more videos in English. That will help my English ability because I can actually feel the English that native speakers are using. So that's my dream.
Lastly, i am not sure what i'll be doing in 10 years. I want to be engaged in a job that requires ability to use many languages. I think that will be very challenging and intersting. Also, i hope to live in many other countries too. I want to be in other cultures and know many things about other countries.
2010년 3월 29일 월요일
Stundents these days tend to really care their English teacher's pronunciation. They seem to believe that English teachers should pronounce just like a native speakers of English. What do you think about this belief? How would you react to this attitude (belief)?
: I agree that many students believe that English teachers should pronounce just like a native speakers of English. They usually think that a good English teacher is who has good pronounciation but I don't think so. There are many people who are very good at English but don't have good pronounciation. It's about how they can use English well, not how they pronounce words just like a native speaker.
Some people might think that people who pronounce like native speakers are most likely to have good English skills but i think that the most important thing of English teachers is their ability to help students to develop their English skills.
I'm a learner who can concentrate more when i have something to look at. I can't concentrate well if i just listen to what the teacher is saying and also, when i have new words, i have to write them down to memorize all of them.
Also, i'm interested in other countries' cultures and so on.
It's always exciting to know how other people around the word are living. There are many different things that i cannot see in my country.
I took a test of three different tests and i think that the results are pretty true. I was surprised to see my results. I learned that i should try to know more about my learning style so that i could use this to improve my English studying skills.
It will surely help me study English more efficiently.

INFJs direct their energy towards the inner world of thoughts and emotions. They use their imagination to come up with new ideas, possibilities and insights, especially in relation to people and important beliefs. They are often good at developing insight into people, though it can often remain unexpressed.
What makes an INFJ tick?
The Dominant function is the perceptive one of iNtuition. Characteristics associated with this function include:
Likes looking at information from a global viewpoint, spotting patterns and relationships, that lead to an understanding of the key issues
Focuses more on possibilities for the future than the here-and-now
Enjoys change, challenge, and variety
The perceptive iNtuition function is introverted. That is, iNtuition is used primarily to govern the inner world of thoughts and emotions. The INFJ will therefore:
Seek to develop a understanding of how the world is, or can be
Seek to understand the patterns underlying his/her observations
Be strategic in nature, wanting to establish a clear vision towards which the INFJ is working
Not involve others in the development of that vision
The iNtuition function is primarily supported by extraverted Feeling judgement, That is, Feeling judgement is used primarily to manage the outer world of actions and spoken words. This will modify the way that the iNtuition is directed, by:
focusing the (inner world) iNtuition on ideas and possibilities that relate to people
expressing appreciation for the contributions of others, particularly where they have done or said something that supports the INFJ's ideals
making decisions on the basis of values that support the INFJ's understanding of the world, and conform to his/her vision.
The classic temperament of an INFJ is Apollonian, or Choleric, for whom a basic driving force is the search for meaning or purpose.
Contributions to the team of an INFJ
In a team environment, the INFJ can contribute by:
observing and understanding the team dynamics, and encouraging the team to recognise them and take appropriate action
listening carefully to various viewpoints, and being able to identify potential areas of agreement to be used as a basis to move forward
being trustworthy, meeting commitments to a consistent standard
contributing creative ideas, particularly those involving people
bringing the team to make decisions about important issues
promoting harmony and co-operation
The potential ways in which an INFJ can irritate others include:
not including others in the INFJ's process of developing ideas and vision
not giving criticism or expressing disagreement when it is appropriate
ignoring current reality in pursuit of insight and meaning - perhaps overlooking some tasks that need to be done
making errors of fact
not promoting their ideas in the group
wanting to pursue ideas without fully thinking through the consequences in, say, cost terms
Personal Growth
As with all types, the INFJ can achieve personal growth by developing all functions that are not fully developed, through actions such as:
being prepared to declare the INFJ's own personal vision or goals
investigating and recognising the facts before interpreting what they mean
changing his/her vision to fit more closely with what is possible
allowing others to participate in the process of development of the INFJ's vision or ideas, in order to gain their commitment or get a realistic, objective assessment
learning to promote the INFJ's ideas to others, recognising that others may well find them valuable
listing options and undertaking a formal process of evaluation against criteria, including a cost benefit analysis
Recognising Stress
As stress increases, 'learned behaviour' tends to give way to the natural style, so the INFJ will behave more according to type when under greater stress. For example, in a crisis, the INFJ might:
find a place of solitude in which to think and work
tell everyone else how well they are coping
try to solve the long term problem, and neglect the short term
make errors of fact, or ignore routine matters that might nevertheless be essential
Under extreme stress, fatigue or illness, the INFJ's shadow may appear - a negative form of ESTP. Example characteristics are:
acting very impulsively, making decisions without thinking them through
doing things to excess - e.g.: eating, drinking or exercising
being critical of others, and finding fault with almost everything
being preoccupied about unimportant details and doing things that have no meaning
acting in a very materialistic and selfish way
cutting corners, breaking the rules, and even contradicting the INFJ's own values
The shadow is part of the unconscious that is often visible to others, onto whom the shadow is projected. The INFJ may therefore readily see these faults in others without recognising it in him/her self.
An idealistic figure of English teacher in my mind
Most of all, i think a good English teacher should know how difficult it is for students to learn English as a second language and a teacher should guide them to study English well.
Teachers must be equipped with many different ways to teach students so that they could help each students with various ways.
Also, a good English teacher has to know what parts of English students are having trouble studying. In that way, students will have more opportunity to develop their English skill in a short time!
